BLOOMINGTON-  A Bloomington woman, charged with attempting to kill her newborn baby just moments after birth, was found NOT GUILTY by reason of insanity Thursday. 37 year old Tonya McKee, who lived at Home Sweet Home Ministries Mission, faced one count of attempted murder for allegedly attempting to abort her baby. Police say she gave birth at the shelter last fall and the baby was found submerged in a toilet alive. Prosecutors say McKee first told medical staff she didn't know she had given birth, later admitting she had given birth and heard the baby crying. McKee is remanded to the Illinois Department of Human Services mental health facility in Springfield.
