PEORIA -- A new statue is honoring a famous Peorian. It's called Olmec Pryor, a tribute to the late Richard Pryor.
The statue was created by local artist Ryan Rashad. It stands in the John H. Gwynn Park near the Carver Center.
Rashad said his goal was to contribute to Peoria in a creative and positive way.
Richard Pryor, Jr. was in town for the unveiling. He said he's excited the city is finally honoring his father. "For them to recognize, finally recognize my dad's work and what he brought to the city and the legacy is going to continue as far as being able to show others and the young people, what my father brought to the table, the city and the community and what we brought to the world, so I'm very excited," he said.
Pryor said he hopes Peoria will do more work to honor his father in the future.
