NORMAL--Data released from a new online polling device shows college voters declared Governor Mitt Romney the winner of last night's presidential debate.
Illinois State University was one of several colleges to take part in the survey during the broadcast.
The device created by "React Labs" asked students whether they agreed or disagreed with candidate statements, then recorded their instant feedback.
While the majority of voters sided with President Obama, in the end they felt Romney had the stronger message.
Political professor Carl Palmer says it could be a game changer in the election.
"For people that weren't necessarily engaged, if you can see the race is competitive, people might be less likely to tune out and more likely to start learning more," Palmer explained.
The survey app is meant to engage younger voters in the election process.
The hope is more college students will visit the polls.
