PEORIA - It's getting to be that time of year when we'll soon see volunteers with the Salvation Army ringing bells and collecting donations in red kettles.
The honorary co-chairs of Peoria's 26th annual Tree of Lights campaign were introduced today.
Lynn and Penny Kunkle are a couple that have been involved with the charity for several years.
The couple says their goal in this fundraising campaign is to shed light on just how much the Salvation Army does for members of the community who are in need.
"The big thing is we want to see the community involved.
We want them to understand what the Salvation Army does on a daily basis.
It's just amazing how many meals they serve, how many people they shelter, things that this community probably doesn't all realize," says Lynn Kunkle.
Last year's Tree of Lights campaign raised over $1.5M for the Salvation Army.
The annual campaign typically raises more than a third of the organization's local annual budget.
