EAST PEORIA- For residents in East Peoria, this is the week to get rid of large unwanted items.
This week (October 1-5) is East Peoria's fall clean up. The city's garbage collectors are taking the big items, which they don't collect on a daily basis.
Items have to be behind the curb next to garbage bins by 5:00 a.m. The city is accepting household items like furniture, mattresses, tree limbs and brush. Tree limbs must be stacked and facing the curb.
Not included are leaves and grass clippings, TVs, computers and other electronics, tires, water heaters, water softeners, construction materials and hazardous waste.
Jackie Harrmann from East Peoria's public works office said residents should take advantage of this week because the city only offers this service twice a year.
"So that really helps them to get those items into the landfill correctly and dispose of them carefully so they're not, we don't find them along the roadways, along ditches and stuff like that. It just enables us to get rid of items in an orderly fashion," Harrmann said.
