Harvest Continues Thanks to Dry Weather

Dry weather helped move the fall harvest along in Illinois, according to a release Monday from the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Topsoil moisture was rated at 15 percent very short, 37 percent short, 44 percent adequate and only 4 percent surplus. Corn harvest has reached 71 percent compared to just 29 percent complete last year. 98 percent of the corn crop is now mature. Soybeans dropping leaves increased to 85 percent last week, compared to 72 percent last year. 17 percent of the soybeans are reported in very poor condition, 24 percent poor, 37 percent fair and only 2 percent excellent.
