PEORIA -- Central Illinois runners got to race over the river this morning. The Illinois Valley Striders hosted the first ever "Bridge to Bridge" run.
It started in downtown Peoria, went over the Bob Michel bridge, through East Peoria's new downtown, back over the Cedar Street bridge and finished on home plate at the Chiefs Stadium.
More than 800 people participated, which the Valley Striders' President said is a reflection of the route. Nancie Alexander said, "Just the aspect of the race going over bridge to bridge it is drawing a lot of people in because you don't normally get to shut down two major bridges in this city, so it's really cool."
Bridge to Bridge is the final race of the season for the Striders. Alexander said the group plans to hold the race again next fall.
