PEORIA- Peoria mayor Jim Ardis' decision to run for re-election is not stopping at-large councilman Chuck Weaver from weighing a mayoral run.
Weaver said he's still collecting signatures and considering a run for mayor in 2014. According to Weaver, he wants the private sector to take more responsibility in the city's business development and economic growth. He said the city's responsibilities are police, fire and infrastructure, and its not doing its job well when it's doing other things.
"You get beyond that and it's important that we do everything to build jobs in our community, and the way you do that is get out of the way of businesses. It's not necessarily just about the incentives you provide, but how you make sure you're not causing barriers," he said.
Weaver was elected to the city council in 2011. He has until November 26th to officially place himself on the ballot.
