PEORIA -- A local movie theater is creating a different movie-going experience to help kids with autism.
Willow Knolls 14 in Peoria has a new program called "Lights Up, Sound Down."
These movies will play wtih the volume lower and leave the lights on, helping kids with sensory issues enjoy movies.
The program is sponsored by the Westlake Financial Group.
Manager Chris Dungan said he's glad to be able to help a new audience. "It's nice to be able to offer something for the kids that normally can't come out and enjoy a movie in the theater based on the sensory loudness of the film and the darkness of the theater. Now they can come out to a film that's comfortable for them."
"Lights Up, Sound Down" movies are playing brand new movies once a month and older movies every Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
If you're one of the first 100 people, you get a free ticket. To sign up, visit www.ggti.com/lightsup.aspx.
