The village board members unanimously approved a liquor ordinance that will allow establishments to sell alcohol. Under the new ordinance, alcohol can be sold until midnight Monday through Thursday and until 2 a.m. on weekends.
Board president Craig Friend says its long overdue, and he hopes uplifting the ban will boost the local economy.
"We'll be able to provide more services, more city parks, more equipment for the children. So we're going to try to take care of everybody with this not just put it back into the bars and restaurants," Friend said.
The village must create a liquor commission before it can issue licenses. The board will vote on a liquor commission at its next meeting.
