BLOOMINGTON - Many low-income kids are learning lessons that will last them a lifetime.
Monday kicked off "Literacy Week" at the Scott Early Learning Center in Bloomington.
Different activities are planned each day to teach writing, reading and spelling.
Celebrity readers, like Reggie Redbird, are also getting involved with morning story time.
The center's lead teacher is hoping parents learn something too.
"We want them to carry this on at home as well. They can see how easy it is to do these simple activities. That is helpful. It seems playful and fun, but all of these little things just help them to familiarize themselves with letters, books and written print," said Sarah Duvendack.
Duvendack added 80% of the center's kids are low-income. They range in age from six weeks to five years.
