EAST PEORIA- A year has passed since Bass Pro Shops opened in East Peoria.
Bass Pro says more than two million people have walked through its doors since September 2011. Since then, the city of East Peoria has undergone significant changes.
Target and Costco will soon be a part of the city's developing downtown. Mayor Dave Mingus says Bass Pro Shops helped spark that development.
"It certainly propelled the fire. When Costco and Target and the many other retail establishments and local establishments know a Bass Pro is within sight, it certainly makes a big difference," said Mingus.
The city estimates Bass Pro has attracted nearly three million people to the area.
