PEORIA- Local city and religious leaders joined in the fight against gun violence Thursday night.
Peoria mayor Jim Ardis, state's attorney Jerry Brady and U.S. Attorney Tate Chambers rallied alongside local faith leaders at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral. The program was organized by the Central Illinois Chapter of the Interfaith Alliance.
It stressed why moral leaders need to step up to clean the streets. Dave Weiman, local chapter president of Interfaith Alliance, said they have to do something to help.
"You can't be stuck saying it's going to work this way or no way. You gotta be flexible, and it will work because I think people want to the shooting to stop," he said.
The event worked in collaboration with Peoria's new anti-gun crime initiative, "Don't Shoot."
