Homelessness is on the rise in the Twin Cities, but a local nursing group is taking action to get people on their feet.
The Heartland Nursing Club and Loomis Armored Services are hosting a drive through donation drop off at Heartland Community College next week.
All items will be given to the Salvation Army's Safe Harbor Shelter, which provides meals and a bed to people without.
Organizers like Jeni Zolfaghari say helping the cause won't take much time.
People just need to drop of items like food, personal supplies, and new socks.
She hopes to prepare the shelter for winter.
"Come November it's really frigid, and people don't want to be outside so they're at full capacity. We want to be able to get them enough supplies and enough food so they can help the community that's in need," Zolfaghari explained.
The donation drive, called "Arm the Harbor" takes place at Heartland Community College next Saturday September 29th.
It lasts from 10 am till 2pm.
