WOODFORD COUNTY - Video poker is now legal in Woodford County.

Tuesday, the county board voted ten to five in favor of allowing video gambling in bars and restaurants. The board also amended its liquor license to accommodate the change.

According to board chairman Stan Glazier, multiple liquor-license holders in Woodford County have already applied for gaming licenses with the Illinois Gaming Board.  However, business owners needed the county's approval.

Also, Woodford County says its not responsible for paying outside legal fees for its circuit clerk.

The board denied paying more than $1,700 dollars in legal fees for Woodford County circuit clerk Carol Newtson.  Newtson hired a lawyer for legal advice regarding a dispute between her and the county board.

Usually, the Woodford County state's attorney provides legal counsel for county officials, and the county would take the bill. But Glazier said the board will not pay at this time, and Newston will have to find the money somewhere else.
