BLOOMINGTON--Christmas is still months away, but Operation Santa is ramping up for the holiday season.
The organization is on a mission to spread Christmas cheer to soldiers overseas by sending them homemade stockings.
Each is filled with goodies and personal items, like lip balm, cookies, and white socks.
The not for profit hopes to send 20,000 stockings to troops, so it needs to get stuffing right away.
"People who can help us make little bags of candy, people who come when we'll get 10,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies with two sleeves each. People who can help tear those apart. There are all kinds of volunteer opportunities," said Operation Santa President Sharon McCauley.
Donation drop off boxes are set up throughout the community including our WMBD-31 Studios in Peoria and Bloomington.
