MORTON -- All signs are pointing to a record year for Morton's annual pumpkin festival.
The Morton Chamber of Commerce said this year it sold more carnival tickets, more food and the parade attendance was at an all-time high.
Although official counts are not yet in, the chamber says about 70,000 people attended the festival.
Executive Director Jennifer Daly said there was one event in particular that was booming this year. She said, "I'm really proud of the Pumpkin Classic. We had 1,700 people participate and they had requests for a good another 300 people but for safety reasons, for the route, we really had to cap it at 1,700."
Daly credits the tradition of the festival for much of its success.
She said the pumpkin festival is always a big reunion for many people who grew up in Morton.
