BLOOMINGTON - McLean County will soon have a new top prosecutor.
Interim state's attorney Ron Dozier is stepping down effective October 5 at 4:30 p.m.
That's about two months before his term expires.
County board members accepted the resignation Tuesday at their regularly scheduled meeting.
Dozier received an appointment to the position when former state's attorney Bill Yoder became a judge.
However, Dozier said in his resignation letter he had prior commitments this October with his wife, so he needs to call it quits early.
The county board also Tuesday approved the appointment of state's attorney-elect Jason Chambers to take over the office.
Chambers is already working for Dozier as a way to have input in the county budgeting process.
