Illinois Corn and Soybean Production Down-USDA

Based on conditions as of September 1st, the 2012 Illinois corn crop is expected to yield 110 bushels per acre, down 6 bushels from last year. Ears per acre at 24,000 is down significantly from recent years. This is the lowest ear count since the 1990's. Production of corn for grain would be 1.39 billion bushels, 29 percent less than was expected in 2011. Meantime, soybean production in Illinois is forecast at 309 million bushels, the same as in August. Yield is expected to be 37 bushels per acre.
