PEORIA -- An early morning fire in the 2600 block of Atlantic Street in Peoria sends one resident to the hospital with minor burns.
The call came into rescue officials just at 9:15 A.M.
The Peoria Fire Department says it took an hour for more than 20 firefighters to put the blaze out.
Battalion Chief Ryan Jones said, "Crews arrived and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the first floor, extending to the second floor of the residence. I don't know the owner's name yet but everyone is accounted for. It was just a resident and a pet."
The resident's dog did not survive.
The cause is still under investigation.
