Staff say the first step starts with a wholesome breakfast.
That's why they're offering it in all of their schools.
But at Bloomington Junior High, there's a different twist.
Students can eat breakfast in the classroom.
Food service staff members deliver meals to students during their first hour.
Items include fresh fruit, whole grain pastries, and milk.
Food Service Director Deb Hilke says the option keeps kids energized and focused.
"You can tell how sluggish they are when they first get here, you can see it," Hilke explained. "The minute they get breakfast food in their stomachs, they're up, ready to go and eager to learn."
Classroom breakfast is also offered at one district elementary school.
Staff members hope to expand the program to all of the buildings.
