NORMAL--An east side bike trail could be coming to town.
The area is in the running for a $500,000 dollar state grant, which could help the area beef up its recreation.
A local legislator submitted the town for the opportunity.
If Normal gets the money, leaders plan to use nearly $300,000 dollars to build a bike trail near the intersection of Raab and Airport Roads.
Normal City Manager Mark Peterson says the area is filled with cyclists who've been longing for this travel upgrade.
"The residents out there are anxious for that to go in, so we'd be delighted to get that trail extension in the budget," said Peterson.
If Normal receives the grant, it plans to break ground on the bike path next year.
