The historic Duryea Trap will be moved from its current home at the Peoria NEXT Innovative Center to its new, permanent home at the new Peoria Riverfront Museum on September 10th. During its journey, the vehicle will stop at the former residence of Charles Duryea at 1512 West Barker Avenue in Peoria, where he built the auto in 1898. In 1992, the "Bring Hme the Duryea" campaign brought back the Duryea Trap for a drive down Moss Avenue before it was put on exhibit at the Main Street Branch of the Peoria Public Library. In 2009, it was moved to the Peoria NEXT Innovation Center on Main Street. The new museum will open October 20th. The Duryea automobiles are famous for winning America's first car race.
