BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL - Travelers hitting the road this holiday weekend are paying higher prices at the pump this year, especially here in Illinois.
According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular is $3.82, that's up about 20 cents from this time last year.
Here in Illinois, the prices are even higher, hovering around $3.90 a gallon in both the twin cities and Peoria.
Chicago has the highest price for a gallon of regular in the state at $4.48 a gallon.
AAA says about 1.8 million Illinoisans will be traveling for the holiday weekend, that's a 2.6% increase from 2011.
