CANTON-- Cook Medical opened its doors to its 2nd building in Canton Friday morning. Cook Medical works on specialized medical equipment that ships to 135 countries across the globe. President of Cook Medical Kem Hawkins says that founder Bill Cook grew up around town and wanted to give back to Canton because of its history.

Nearly 30 years ago a harvesting plant supplied most jobs in Canton. The economy was doing poorly so the plant had to cut jobs and eventually closed down. Not to long after the plant closed it caught fire and burnt to the ground. The city became broke due to lack of jobs, people moved out of city limits and the city of Canton nearly died. Bill Cook wanted to help put money back into the city and built the first building of Cook Medical and created many jobs.

Bill Cook has passed since the construction of building 2 but his legacy still lives on through the company he help found. Kem Hawkins says that "the opportunity to have a job is critical and it provides dignity for people" He also says Cook Medical is very excited to be apart of the continuing building process in Canton.
