PEORIA- Peoria County administrators say county property taxes will not go up next year.
They're still working on the budget, but say there are plans to add three corrections officers in the county jail. There won't be much more hiring after that. The county is trying to save money by keeping positions vacant after people leave or retire.
They're also cutting spending on things like office supplies.
Administrator Lori Curtis Luther said departments have had to cooperate better because the county has had less money to work with.
"The assessed evaluation for properties countywide are going down so that decreases our revenue stream. Our revenue stream from the state of Illinois is also declining," Luther said.
The Peoria County budget is due on October 11th.
