A Peoria man, accused of murdering an acquaintance last year, was sentenced Thursday to 33 years in prison after a jury rejected a self defense argument. 42 year old Justin Cervantes was found guilty of the October 6, 2011 stabbing death of Sven Mundt. The coroner says Mundt, the city's 12th homicide of the year, died of multiple stab wounds including defensive wounds to his arms. Court records indicate Cervantes has a criminal record dating back to the 1980's and has done time for armed robbery and burglary.
