"We've been at it, I remember that little jacket on the wall, I used to wear to go to motorcycle races," Sherry Hayes said as she pointed to a children's leather biker jacket, mounted on the wall.
Hayes is now the president of Grayboy Motorsports, but she said bikes have been in her family since as long as she can remember. Her father opened the store in Chillicothe in the 1960's and it's been on Prospect Road in Peoria Heights since 1974.
Even though Hayes runs the store now, she said her father was the driving force behind Grayboy, until his health issues took over.
"Yeah it does make me sad. My dad's really, he's lived and breathed motorcycles for all these years, and it's just the end of an era. He's 80 now so we've just decided it's time to close," she said.
Hayes said she she's trying to help her 13 employees find other jobs. Since she couldn't find anyone else who was serious about buying the business,
anything that's not sold will be auctioned off.
Grayboy Motorsports will close it's doors on September 29th. Hayes is looking to have the auction in either late October or early November.
