EAST PEORIA- Workers poured concrete Thursday, laying the start of what will be the home of a new Subway in East Peoria.
The strip mall will be finished in October, as of now, the Subway is the only store that has signed for the space. The future strip mall is across the street from Illinois Central College.
Horan Construction is working to fill the other three spots in the mall, and says there has been a lot of interest from different businesses. The construction company says a lot of research went into deciding where to build the Subway.
"What it tells us is there's a lot of need in that area for healthy food because of the demographics and also fast and convenient food," said Katie Arnholt-Kim, Vice President of Horan Construction.
While nothing is final yet, Arnholt-Kim said offices and retail stores may fill the other three spots in the strip mall.
