BATH-- This weekend marks the 8th annual Redneck Fishing Tournament in Bath Illinois. More than 200 boaters gather in the rivers to test their luck and patience. The goal of the fishers is to catch Asian Carp using nothing but hand nets...or their hands and sometimes their faces.
There are 4 heats that take place in 2 hour sessions throughout the weekend. Some boats have 2 man teams while bigger boats have bigger teams. The boat with the most fish caught at the end of the weekend will win door prizes and bragging rights for a year.
Betty DeFord is the event organizer and is expecting the amount of fish to be caught will be more than last years 9-thousand record. She says that the fish will then be hauled off and far away from any river.
All proceeds will go to the Tommy's Angels foundation to benefit Coty Sutheard. Coty is a Bath resident and is currently battling cancer.
