BLOOMINGTON- Bloomington-Normal is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary with sister city Asahikawa, Japan.
Nearly forty residents from the Japanese city made it to Bloomington today.
They will spend the entire week in the twin cities.
The sistership is one of the longest running in the United States.
Rich Strle of the Sister City Committee says, " It started out in the sixties, and through a lot of hard work of a lot of different people over the years - we've kept it going and kept the exchange program going. It's very exciting."
A marker has been placed at the miller park friendship bridge to commemorate the anniversary.
