BLOOMINGTON--A hometown hero is reuniting with his family after a seven month tour in Afghanistan.

Master Sergeant Daniel Brennan of the United States Marine Corps flew into Bloomington's Central Illinois Regional Airport this evening.

Friends and family, dressed in colors of red, white, and blue, came out to greet him with open arms.

Brennan's Afghanistan tour took place near the Helmand Province, where he shot artillery in support of infantry units.

While he's passionate about defending the nation's freedom, he's thankful to be home safe, and in the company of loved ones.

"You do miss friends and family so much when you're gone.  But, at the same time you have to take care of your marines by your side," said Brennan.  "They're my family also.  But this is my real family back home, and it's just a joy to come back and be able to spend time with them."

This is Brennan's first deployment to Afghanistan.

He's served 19 years with the U.S. Marine Corps.
