EAST PEORIA - Police say a simple fix could stop a recent rash of car burglaries in East Peoria.
25 vehicles were burglarized since July 1. Burglars are stealing anything from valuables to money to garage door openers. But they haven't had to work too hard for their loot. Police say few of the incidents have been forced entry. Many are from drivers just not locking their doors.
"The easiest and best deterrent is simply locking your vehicle. Lock your vehicle and they'll see that it's locked, move on to the next vehicle. And somebody else most likely, unfortunately, left their vehicle unlocked," said Deputy Chief Shannon Swearingen of East Peoria police.
Drivers are also asked to hide all personal belongings in their car or simply take them with you. Most of the reported burglaries have taken place near Fondulac Road and Meadows Avenue.
