CANTON- (UPDATE) -There was a major power outage in Fulton County because of a
transformer which exploded at Ameren CIPS substation south of Canton. No
one was hurt and there was no fire. The outage affected the south end of Canton, and the towns
of St. David, Bryant, Banner and Glasford. The American Red Cross
opened at shelter at St. Mary's Church gym at 357 N. 3rd in Canton
after 7:30pm Friday. However, late Friday evening, Canton city officials say Ameren was able to bypass some circuits and restored power to all affected residents.
