Lighting Fireworks? City of Peoria Dishes Out Warning

By: Eugene Daniel
Updated: July 3, 2012
PEORIA- The Peoria Fire Department says it hands out multiple fines each year to people who illegally set off fireworks.

Only a few types of fireworks are allowed within city limits. Those include smaller fireworks, like party poppers, snappers, toy caps and smoke generating devices.

Also, it's illegal to purchase or set off fireworks without a permit and the city says it only issues permits to major companies. Still, the city understands people will still try to have a little fun on their own.,

And it asks those people take precautions.

"The safe thing to do is to make sure that only adults are touching the fireworks. Have some type of water close at hand to put them out. But again if you're doing them on your street or corner you can possibly get a ticket within the city of Peoria," said Peoria Fire Division Chief Melanie Anderson

If you're caught without a permit within city limits, you could be fined at least $100.
