PEORIA- People who visited Peoria's Friendship House Saturday got a taste of American, Mexican and African American culture.
Visitors made Juneteenth dolls, American flag sticks and Mexican paper flowers to celebrate the diverse cultures in the Peoria community.
The family-oriented event had fun crafts for kids, but it had plenty for adults too. Organizations like Align Life, the fire department and health department were there to give free advice and to answer any questions.
Event organizer Barb Hartnett said there's a need for this kind of event in Peoria.
"There aren't that many family oriented things to do in a neighborhood like this, so we try to provide that opportunity. Families to come together share, mom or dad can help work on a craft with a child," Hartnett said.
The Friendship House said Community Unity Day is all about getting through difficult times together as neighbors.
