Due to the continuing drought, there is a high threat of dry vegetation fires. The cities of Bloomington, Normal and Washington have all issued bans that ban the use of portable fireplaces, fire pits and chimineas.
It does not include gas grills, charcoal grills or smoke grills. Firefighters will be enforcing the ban while also encouraging people to call and report any violators.
Matt Swaney of Normal Fire Department says, "If our firefighters are called out because someone's having a recreational fire, we're going to make them put it out.  It's as simple as that.  It's too dry, too windy.  Whatever the conditions may be, if the fire isn't safe, we're going to put it out."

People are also asked to be careful when playing with fireworks and discarding used cigarettes. The bans are in place until further notice.
