DWIGHT - The Dwight Correctional Center will be closing. WMBD 31 has
obtained a memo that says the facility will be closing August 31st.
This comes as a huge blow to the village, which has been fighting to save its second largest employer since Governor Quinn announced plans to close it earlier this year. The facility employees nearly 350 workers.
Last month the Illinois General Assembly passed a budget that includes money to keep the facility open.
But the Governor is allowed to go ahead and close the facility.
The memo we obtained says the Governor plans to close Dwight, Tamms Super Max in southern Illinois and three other facilities.
The decision on whether to close Peoria's Adult Transition Center has been put on hold for now.
WMBD 31 has a crew headed to Dwight and we'll have more on this developing story on WMBD 31 News at 5:00 and 6:00PM.

It will cause a ripple effect to the whole area. To relocate the inmates will mean construction somewhere. That means more expense not any savings. Now the unemployment in Dwight area will mean less tax money. Then a few homes will be up for sell. Not aa smart move by the Chicgo Gov.

This is such a kick in the butt to such a great little Community and the emplyees at DCC. Such a shame one man could be so heartless. Maybe a day will come it happens to him. We could only hope!!
