NORMAL-The
Unit 5 school board approved a new contract with its teachers tonight.
The
teachers' union approved the deal last night. The two year agreement includes a
one percent salary increase each year. The district would also kick in an extra
$10 per month toward employee health care premiums in each year, rising from
the current 480 dollars to 500 in the contract's second year.
Unit
5 Superintendent Gary Niehaus said, "Getting a good fair contract in place with
compensation in place is very important to us and very important to them as
well."
The Unit 5
Education Association represents about 950 teachers, social workers and other
employees.
