Due to the recent dry weather and a lack of decent rainfall, many Illinois counties are reporting signs of stress in corn and soybeans. The average height of the corn is 29 inches compared to just 13 inches last year. However, only 9 percent of corn is considered in excellent condition while two percent is in poor condition while 47 percent is good and 34 percent fair. 99 percent of soybeans are in the ground compared to just 88 percent at this time last year. 96 percent of the crop has emerged. Only 5 percent of beans are considered excellent, 3 percent poor, 45 percent good and 38 percent in fair condition.
