PEORIA--People cruising Detweiller Marina got a special surprise Saturday morning.
Paramedics with the RiverMedic 1 team spent time handing out free life jackets to children.
They even fitted each child with the right size.
The team says it's important everyone has a jacket that fits.
If it's too big they could slide out, and too little they could sink.
With summer just around the corner, paramedic Steve Amstutz says it's important all people are safe when they hit the water.
"We see a lot of alcohol related injuries and we see a lot of injuries that are based on people not having the proper safety equipment," explained Amstutz. "So we're out here making sure all kids have the right fitting life jackets and making sure they can have a safe time out on the river this year."
The CDC says in ninety percent of all water related deaths involving kids...they weren't wearing a life jacket.
