WMBD/WYZZ-TV STAFF - METAMORA, IL - In 2008, Kasey Kanaga and company won an 8th grad state softball championship. The same class was victorious in 2010 as
sophomores. If the Redbirds want to continue the trend of winning a title every two years....history says this is their season."
"It would be cool to win it 8th grade and senior year," said Kasey Kanaga, Metamora Senior. "Being up on top and being a leader. That would be awesome."
Kasey isn't the only one in the family winning titles. Her brother Kody hoisted state football trophies with Metamora in 2008, and with St. Xavier last year.
"Between him and I, I don't want to say its a competition, but sometimes we rub it in each other's face," said Kanaga. "Who has the most championships? It would be nice to have another one under my belt."
Now, the sibling rivalry moves north to Chicago, as Kasey will join her brother at the same school in the fall. to play softball for the Cougars.
"He knows what are the good dorms, and the simple stuff like that. I know I'll always have a family member up there," said Kanaga. "I know the campus up there from watching him play football."
"It's a great place for her at St. Xavier. It's a level she can walk in and play and succeed right away," said Deric Linder, Metamora Softball Coach. "I think that's something that Kasey will really like."
She still has unfinished business before she leaves and she hopes history is on the Redbirds side.
"I don't want to say we expect to win, it's just kind of there," said Kanaga. "Confidence in my team, and pitcher and catcher. Pretty comfortable with all my teammates out here."
