Now she's a hospice patient, so doesn't get her fingers in the dirt anymore. But her love of all things horticultural still runs strong.
On Friday, Melton was the guest of honor at Peoria's Luthy Botanical Garden. She enjoyed a picnic in the gazebo and a private tour of the property.
Christy Cooper of Hospice Dreams said, "Her and her husband Jim really loved gardening. They loved getting out and looking at the flowers. Yellow roses are her favorite. She can't really do that anymore, so we just wanted to bring her to this place so she could enjoy it one more time."
The visit commemorated National Public Garden Day. Hospice Dreams hosted the day with the help of the Peoria Park District.
