Wet Conditions Slow Planting

By: Bob Larson
Updated: May 7, 2012
Wet conditions have slowed planting in Illinois in the past week, according to a release Monday from the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Some farmers are expected to replant corn because of too much rain. Corn is now 89 percent planted compared to just 27 percent a year ago and 47 percent for a five year average. Corn is rated at 2 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 66 percent good and 12 percent excellent.  21 percent of soybeans are in the ground compared to just one percent last year.
