PEORIA -- Some area leaders are going pink to fight breast cancer. They're taking action by wearing pink socks today.
It's an effort to get local employers to participate in the Pink Sock Challenge. The goal is to get area employers to donated $5 to the Komen Memorial Affiliate for every employee who wears in pink socks to work Wednesday.
"Wearing pink socks today, you're going to turn some heads. There's going to be some people that are going to think why are they wearing pink socks. And hopefully, that's a way for us to really educate the community more about what Komen does for the thousands of women's lives that it's saved, for the research, and investment they're making to find a cure for breast cancer," said U.S. Representative Aaron Schock.
This event is leading up to the 27th annual Race for the Cure. That's happening Saturday in Peoria.
