Nearly 800 Caterpillar workers are preparing to strike at 12:01am Tuesday after rejecting a contract proposal. The current contract runs out at midnight. Union officials claim the new contract proposal would have kept wages flat for six years while doubling the health insurance contributions. Caterpillar said its Joliet plant would continue to operate with retirees and managers and would run business as normal, meet production levels and provide uninterrupted service to customers.
