BLOOMINGTON--Recent statistics released by the department of employment security show the state's unemployment rate is about nine percent.

But wmbd-31 news is taking action to change that by hosting an employment expo.

The job fair kicked off at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts at 10 this morning.

People could browse nearly 30 booths from across Central Illinois.

Many options are available including manufacturing, hospitality and clerical positions.

Applicants like Bryan McGuire are thankful for the fair.

He's been searching for a job for weeks and says it's helpful to speak with employers directly.

"With people doing everything online for applications you don't see it so face to face, like turning applications into people and seeing them right there," said McGuire.  "So it's a little bit different, it's a little bit harder, and with a lot more people out of work, everybody is looking for a job."

The expo also held workshops throughout the day helping people fine tune their interview skills and update their resumes.
