PEORIA- A group of extraordinary pilots is being recognized for their commitment to those in need.
Lifeline Pilots were honored for more than 30 years of service Monday.
Local leaders and dignitaries filled Peoria International Airport to celebrate the volunteer pilots who devote their resources to help people with medical needs.
Lifeline's founder Wanda Whitsitt says it's amazing how much the program has grown over the years.
"The first year we had four missions. Now we have 600 pilots with a mission going nearly every day," she said.
Lifeline recently finished its 7,000 mission. In three decades, the volunteer pilots have flown the equivalent to three round-trips to the moon.
