PEKIN- A new proposal to save Pekin's West Campus involves the city handing over thousands of dollars.
A group of community members and West Campus property owner, Merle Huff, sent a proposal to Pekin city leaders. The proposal asks the city to loan the Pekin Civic Center Authority money to pay for demolition and to jumpstart programs for public fundraising.
The West Campus project manager Josh Hafliger says it will take a "few hundred thousand dollars" to pay for work already done and to secure the property. The main building is all that remains of west campus.
Hafliger says he's trying to delay demolition until next week. But he needs an answer by then.
