WMBD/WYZZ-TV - BRIMFIELD - Elmwood senior Colton Stage is a 3-sport athlete excelling in football, basketball and baseball. He likes the variety for a number of reasons.
"It keeps me out of trouble," quipped Stage, who plays quarterback, guard and first base.
He may be best known at school for his success in athletics but the faculty at Elmwood High School tell you hes a hit in more than sports. Stage has been nominated for a third straight Elmwood Excellence Award given to students who excel in the classroom and the community.
"Its nice the teachers think of me as a good person by nominating me for stuff like this," said Stage who won the award as a sophomore and junior. "I hope the students look to me as a role model, too."
Stage has a 4.6 grade point average and is ranked 14th in his class. Hes a member of the National Honor Society and Future Farmers of America. Hell play basketball next year at Knox College where hell study math.
But for now hes concentrating on getting the Brimfield-Elmwood baseball team (11-15) ready for regionals in two weeks. "We started the season 3-0 and its our only 3-game win streak of the season," said Stage. "I hope that changes soon."
